A fairly new resident of Capeside, Jack and his sister, Andie moved to Capeside with their mother, hoping to get away from the rumors that were spreading about their unstable family life.

Jack and Andie have a deceased older brother and a severely depressed mother. Soon after the move, Jack and Andie realized that moving to Capeside wasn't going to solve all of their problems.

Pacey and he did a small crime and their teacher made Jack read a poem they had to write for their class aloud in the class.

Jack fell apart mentally at that point because his poem was about another man and it was noted that he was probably homosexual. At first he denied it but after a while he confessed himself being gay.

This is the poem that got Jack to confess to himself he is gay:

Kerr Smith returns to DAWSON'S CREEK for a fourth season as Jack McPhee, who ventured into a new television territory as he dealt with the complexities of coming to terms with his sexuality.

At first, his father was not accepting of Jack's situation, causing further strife in their already shattered family, but last season father and son made great strides to rebuild their relationship.

Smith was seen most recently in Sony/Screen Gem's "The Forsaken" with Brendan Fehr and in a cameo role in "Broken Hearts Club." He also starred in the hit New Line film "Final Destination," the improvisational comedy "Kiss and Tell," where he played an arrogant womanizer, and in the romantic comedy "Hit and Runaway," which received the Screenwriters Award at this year's Los Angeles International Film Festival.

Smith grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Exton, Pennsylvania, where his competitive nature propelled him to excel in Baseball, snow skiing and student politics, first as class president and then as school president. His first dramatic performance was as Sir Edward Ramsey in his high school production of "The King and I."

After high school, Smith followed his father's advice by earning an undergraduate degree in "something sensible" - Business Administration (Finance & Accounting) - from the University of Vermont.

As a Kappa Sigma, Chief Justice of the Greek Judicial Board and a member of the ski patrol in Stowe, Vermont, Smith's college days were "very social," by his own admission.

After graduation, Smith returned to Exton to start a business-marketing firm with his father, but realizing that he "hated the selling aspect, but loved making presentations," it was time to become an actor.

Smith's first acting job, as an extra in "Twelve Monkeys" with Bruce Willis, came immediately. Commercials for Carl's Jr. and Gateway Computers came soon after.

He sold his beloved Bronco II, moved to New York City and landed a part on "As the World Turns" as Ryder Hughes within a few months. In 1996, his outstanding performance earned him a Best New Actor Award from Soap Opera Magazine.

A self-taught pianist, Smith enjoys writing music and is also completing a screenplay about a college incident when not at work on DAWSON'S CREEK.
