What happens when two foster kids from hell wind up being placed in the beautiful designer home of a successful Beverly Hills gay couple? Meet twelve-year-old T.J. Hardy and his eight-year-old half brother Brian, a precocious duo who've been through more foster homes than Phyllis Diller has cosmetic surgeons. Thanks to a resourceful Child Services case worker, Gloria Carter, their luck appears to be changing. Gloria introduces the boys to dedicated psychotherapist/couples' counselor, Phil Russell, and his spouse, respected attorney, Eric Johnston. They're a committed couple who've been on a waiting list to adopt a newborn. Definitely not the "newborn" they had in mind, Brian and T.J. make the move from a flophouse in downtown L.A. to the good life in the Beverly Hills mansion. The boys' unexpected arrival wreaks havoc on Phil and Eric's marriage, while Gloria doggedly assures them, "It's just for one night." |
"One night" turns into days, and days into weeks, while Phil and Eric struggle to redefine their relationship. Adding fuel to the fire, the boys' mother, Cat (short for "catastrophe waiting to happen") flies into the mansion like a bat out of hell and yells, "Get your stuff, we're out of here." Fresh off the streets and dressed to prove it, Cat is determined to reclaim her boys, no matter what. Unfortunately, maternal instinct and genuine love for her children are camouflaged by years and years of alcohol abuse. Enter therapist Phil Russell to the rescue! Phil digs in and tries to use his therapeutic skills to heal this broken family. Eric's inclination is to cut his losses early and reclaim his comfortable lifestyle. Things go from bad to worse when T.J. starts drinking, steals Eric's Mercedes, and has a gun in the car when he's apprehended by the police. "Just one night" has suddenly turned into ONE BIG NIGHTMARE! |
Gay parenthood has been a topic of discussion throughout the years and all over the world. In some countries it is unthinkable and in others (like Holland) it is legal. What must stand out of all these discussions is the consideration what is good for the child. |
Is it better to have a straight single mother who is a junky and is uncapable of raising a child? Or is it better to have two people in a stable relationship who love to parent a child so much that they are willing to endure the long and harsh procedure of adoption? |
