Synopsis

Pablo Quintero is an avant-garde film director. He lives in Madrid. He has a sister, named Tina, who takes care of a teen-aged girl whose mother wants nothing to do with her. There are plenty of groupies who'd like to sleep with Pablo, especially if the package might include a part in a picture, but he's in love with Juan Bermúdez. Juan sometimes has sex with him and would like to reciprocate his love but holds back from going all the way, from fear of being gay or fear of commitment or whatever.
As the movie opens, Juan is moving away to another town. He writes letters back to Pablo that are typically nice but noncommittal. Pablo, frustrated, types up a letter to himself and sends it to Juan with instructions to sign it and send it back. It comes back. Pablo is highly satisfied. Or perhaps "satisfied" is the wrong word.
Antonio Benítez appears on the scene. Antonio says, "I don't normally sleep with guys," and the fact that he needs instructions in bed seems to confirm it. Still, he makes love passionately. Later he prowls around, checking out Pablo's apartment and reading his mail, including the letter from Juan.

Winner of the 1987 San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival Audience Award for Best Feature.
Antonio Banderas stars as Antonio Benítez, an obsessive fan of writer-director Pablo Quintero (Eusebio Poncela), a cocaine-snorting homosexual hedonist whose last boyfriend, Juan (Miguel Molina), has just moved out. Meanwhile, Pablo's transsexual sister, Tina (Carmen Maura), has problems of her own.
