A young gay man goes looking for love in the sun-drenched urban jungle of the Silverlake district of Los Angeles.

Kyle (Sean Tataryn) is an 18-year-old aspiring poet who has found his way out of the closet and now has left behind the stifling environment of the Valley for the more bohemian surroundings of the Silverlake district.

Naive Kyle spends his days in coffee shops working on his maudlin verse and looking for love.

Hanging out in a local coffee shop, he meets some of the local divas who insist that if he wants to be a poet he must fall in love.

He thinks that he may have found it when he meets Mike (Christopher Bradley), a ruggedly handsome 30-year-old man who works in construction and has a taste for aggressive sex.

Mike picks up Kyle and soon has him at home and in handcuffs; Kyle is hoping for a bit more tenderness in a relationship, but Mike is good looking enough that he doesn't complain too loudly.

However, it isn't long before it becomes obvious that the two have almost nothing in common, and while Kyle wants to make their romance work, Mike can hardly be bothered and is already looking for new prospects as Kyle tries to psych himself up for his first major reading.

This sexy film ranks among the most refreshing and honest gay love stories in years. Set in the world of muscle men, denim daddies, leather studs, and poolside cocktails, and featuring colorful cameos by local LA divas (as well as the incomparable Mink Stole), Leather Jacket Love Story is an erotic romance with plenty of scenes to drive boys wild.

Before I jump into the pool, I just gotta give some background here! LEATHER JACKET LOVE STORY is a great film... but hang on a sec.

First off... this is the child of director David DeCoteau, the same director of "The Brotherhood" series and numerous homoerotic fright films of the past few years... He has directed numerous other films under the "FULL MOON" label, and finally gave up on Full Moon when the company vastly edited his film "Voodoo Academy", deleting about 17 minutes of material that Full Moon just thought was "inappropriate", including the infamous "nightmare scenes" wherein the boys of the film are... well... having nightmares that are apparently erotic in nature, as they writhe about and seek self stimulation... there was NOTHING graphic about that at all.. (it wasn’t even "soft porn"), but Full Moon blasted their gasket!

So David decided to move on, and created his own production company, RAPID HEART CINEMA (web addie: www.rapidheart.com) . In this site you will find all of his latest films, many not mentioned on this forum, but, also many with a clear GLBT interest.

I have communicated with David on numerous occasions, and I often get emails from him about his new productions, release dates, and some comments from his actors, etc… in all, David is an email friend of mine, and he is totally candid about what he is doing, and why he is doing it. Numerous actors in his fright films have moved on to become soap opera stars, get better roles, etc., and David has helped them do this!

David’s work can also be seen in other films under various other "director" names... Victoria Sloane, Richard Chasser (a joke on David’s part... because it really means "Dick Chaser".. use the imagination!) and more names (Retro Puppet Master, and many other films are really David’s work, and if you are a fan, you can clearly see it!)

But oddly enough.. Leather Jacket Love Story remains one of David’s most obscure films, yet one of his most important.

It was filmed long before David’s horror-scholck films, and is probably going to end up being the most "infamous" of his films after time, for it, indeed, is at least from what I can tell, his most personal character study.

The grainy B&W film is certainly not going to please the HDTV addict, but if one is looking for TRUE quality, this is a great film! It simply lays out a TRUTH of life... that respective of years and experience, there does exist such a thing as impartial love.

The scenario seems quite unreliable at first.. a young guy (say 19 or so) meeting a "leather dude" of say "the plus side" of 20-something), but the magic of this film is that in the oddity of the real world, these two do meet, and the obsession of the younger turns out to be an obsession of the elder of the two principal characters.

HOW WAS THIS DONE? Simple! A magnetism evolves throughout the whole film, that is nothing short of "precious". It is NOT animal lust, but rather a well developed and moving film that breaks barriers down that have not been broken down in many a Gay themed blockbuster type of film!

That is the GREATEST quality of this film... without any grandiose gestures, we see, blatantly, on the screen two guys dealing with issues, and exploring not only themselves but each other in ways that mainstream cinema most often ignores!

As for the "Leather Jacket"... I will not tell! I don’t want to ruin it all, but it isn’t ALL that important :-) (Yeah... it is!)

This is a , what we call in the USA a true "sleeper" of a movie... one that has gone by unnoticed, but is gaining a huge audience. Some people buy it just to see "Mink Stole" (an actress of John Waters’ fame), others buy it for other reasons.

A word to the wise... if you decide to purchase the DVD, make sure that you get the most current edition... which will include: Director comments from David, out-takes, and about 15 or so minutes of out-takes that would have caused an outrage at the time this film was made. The younger actor, Sean, T., also has a website... but I won’t post that here...
