Synopsis
|
Has your past ever come back to haunt you?
Matthew is an attractive young man who would like nothing more than to stay young and attractive forever. On the eve of his 30th birthday, Matthew invites David, an 18 year old he meets in a chatroom, over to his home.
In the middle of the night, Matthew awakens alone in his bed. Soon Matthew begins to realize that he may not be alone in his house. Is it David? Or someone else... lurking in the shadows? Trapped, Matthew must try to escape the 'Shadows' that are closing in on him. But are these ghosts real or imagined?

Gay interest

Nightshadows is a film that crosses genres. It has not been done (successfully). What few "gay-themed" horror films that exist are either campy (i.e. La Cage aux Zombies) or just mildly homoerotic (i.e. the films of David DeCoteau). And none of them have actually been scary. It was the goal of the cast and the crew to make a genuinely scary horror film with openly gay characters.
In addition to the scares, Nightshadows also expresses social commentary. Aside fromthe obvious (that anonymous sex with strangers can be dangerous), another question is raised. In a culture that rewards the young and the beautiful, how far will someone go in order to attain youth and beauty? In Nightshadows that quest is taken to the extreme.
Winner of the Best Short Film Award on the Forth Worth Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 2004.

Personal review
|
The cast and crew had a goal of making a genuinely scary horror movie with gay characters. Did they succeed in doing that? Yes! The characters are believable. The story is well written and the music adds to the suspense. The twist from a scary situation to horror is usually difficult but in Nightshadow well executed.
Besides being a good horror movie it is a good gay-themed movie. The main characters are openly gay and the interaction between them is erotic and realistic. This could happen on a blind date from the internet with two cute gay guys in search for sex.
Don't let the fact that it lasts only 16 minutes fool you. This is a movie worth seeing. I can't wait for the next movie by J.T. Seaton.

Quotes
|
David: You don´t know anything about me. You´ve invited a complete stranger into your house. I could be... a serial killer. Using the internet to find my victims. Getting them to invite me to their houses. And then killing them in their sleep. You never know."
