Noxeema Jackson (Wesley Snipes), Vida Boheme Patrick Swayze) and Chi Chi Rodriguez (John Leguizamo) are gonna show America a thing or two about being fabulous. Dressed to kill, with their Dynel dresses tossing in the breeze behind them, these three stars of New York's drag-queen beauty pageant circuit have hit the open road in a 1967 Cadillac convertible. Destination: Hollywood. But the trio is in for a detour when the car breaks down in the tiny midwestern town of Snydersville, where drag queens are about as common as August snowstorms. |
"Those women sure are big," gasps one of the locals. Up to now Snydersville has been a lot more like a graveyard than a town. That's all about to change. The local citizenry is going to get an infusion of flash and glamour the likes of which it's never seen. During the course of one incredible weekend, eyes will be opened, broken hearts healed, and hair teased within an inch of its life. |
That should be plain to see for everyone. This movie is all about gays and drag queens. |
|
One of my ABSOLUTE favourits! Already seconds after the movie starts you're not looking at men in dresses but at gorgeous drag queens. |
Can you tell the rules for becoming a drag queen? |
This movie is loaded with great quotes (a few I have mentioned here). Noxeema: When a gay man has way too much fashion sense for a single gender, he is a drag queen. When a tired little latin boy puts on a dress, he is simply a boy in a dress! Noxeema: Approval neither desired nor required. Chi Chi: Go on Vida and talk to him, you speak honky! Vida: And who would think that this ebony enchantress would one day share a title with moi? Vida: I think tomorrow is a say-something-hat day. Vida: It's like living in a Tex Avery cartoon. Vida: You know, pumpkins, sometimes it just takes a fairy. Vida: Sometimes it just takes a fairy. Chi-Chi: I got more legs than a bucket of chicken. Vida: What in gay hell? Vida: Internal combustion, the ultimate accessory. Chi Chi: I didn't ask to come on this trip, did I? No, I don't think so! Did I ask you to be making me over and jump all kinds of hoops like some circus poodle? No, I don't think so! Do I want to go to jail because of some cop killer? No, I don't think so! So as soon as we get to the next town I am jumping on the first man and riding him all the way to New York City and away from you two puckered up, stuck up putas 'cause this trip sucks! It sucks! Noxeema: I am not going upstairs with you. I ain't drivin' you no more, Miss Daisy! Noxeema: You look like the Miami Sound Machine just exploded all over you! Vida [choosing a car]: Well pumpkins, it comes down to that age-old decision: style... or... substance? Vida: I feel like Miss Jayne Mansfield in this car. Chi Chi: If I were bread, would you be my butter? Noxeema: Larger than life is just the right size. |
