1971: Glam rock explodes all over the world and challenges the seriousness within the flower power generation by means of glitter and brutal music. Brian Slade, a young rock star, inspires numerous teenage boys and girls to paint their nails and explore their own sexuality.

In the end Slade destroys himself. Unable to escape the role he created for himself, he plots

his own murder. When his fans discover that the murder is a fake, his star falls and he is forgotten.

1984: Arthur, a journalist working for a New York newspaper, gets assigned the story about the fake murder of Brian Slade. When Arthur was young and grew up in Manchester, he was more than a fan of Slade. Reluctantly he accepts the assignment and starts to investigate what happened to his old glam rock hero.

Slash fan fiction is when a person writes a story involving two (usually) males characters from a television show or movie in a homoerotic romantic relationship.

And this is what 'velvet goldmine' is. A visually stunning, incredibly tasty piece of slash fan fiction.

I haven't seen this movie yet. My personal opinion will be online as soon as I have seen it personally.

Jerry: That man sitting over there in the white suit... is the biggest thing to come out of this country since sliced Beatles.

Mandy: Today, there'd be fighting in the streets. But in 1972, it was more like dancing.

Mandy: Now, just because someone sees, you know, two naked people asleep in bed together, it doesn't necessarily prove sex was involved. It does, however, make for a very strong case.

Curt: The world has changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history.

Curt: We set out to change the world... ended up just changing ourselves.
Arthur: What's wrong with that?
Curt: Nothing, if you don't look at the world.

Curt: Listen, a real artist creates beautiful things and puts nothing of his own life into them, OK?

Cecil: Brian was elegance walking arm and arm with a lie.

Mandy: I needn't mention how essential dreaming is to the character of the rock star.

Cecil: Style always wins out in the end.

Reporter: Tell us, Brian, are the rumors true when they say you and Curt Wild have some sort of plans up your sleeve?
Brian: Oh yes. Quite soon we actually plan to take over the world!

Mod Girlfriend: So what are you, a mod or a rocker?
Brian: Six of one, half a dozen of the other, really.

Curt: Make a wish, and see yourself on stage, inside out. A tangle of garlands in your hair. Of course you are pleasantly surprised.

Malcolm: I don't believe that there is much of a future to speak of.
